MCKINNEY, TEXAS – Jason Day won the AT&T Byron Nelson, earning his 13th career PGA TOUR title and first since the 2018 Wells Fargo Championship. It was a slump-breaker, for sure, as the victory came in Day’s 106th start since the 2018 Wells Fargo Championship (5 years, 8 days ago).

Day, who also won the AT&T Byron Nelson in 2010, became the seventh player in tournament history with multiple titles. Day’s final-round 62 is the low finish by a winner on Tour since Tom Kim at the 2022 Wyndham Championship (61).

World No. 2 and Dallas resident Scottie Scheffler finished T-5, his 12th consecutive result of T-12 or better.

Two-time defending champion K.H. Lee finished T-50.

PGA Tour: Byron Nelson Classic Final Round Preview

AT&T Byron Nelson | Final Round

MCKINNEY, TEXAS – In the 30th of 44 events in the 2022-23 PGA Tour regular season, Austin Eckroat, Zecheng Dou and Texan Ryan Palmershare the 54-hole lead at the AT&T Byron Nelson. Three players tied for the 54-hole lead is the most on Tour since the 2022 Valero Texas Open (four).

Note the 54-hole leads in individual stroke-play events on Tour: Eckroat (participating in first), Dou (participating in first) and Palmer (1-for-5 to date)

All three 54-hole leaders currently stand outside No. 135 in the FedExCup standings

Three players T-4 or better seek their first PGA Tour victory (Eckroat, Dou, Vincent Norrman).

Texas native Palmer seeks his fifth Tour victory and first since the 2019 Zurich Classic of New Orleans (with partner Jon Rahm).

Following an even-par 71, second-round leader and Dallas resident Scottie Scheffler trails by two. With a win, Scheffler would return to No. 1 in the Official World Golf Ranking.

PGA Tour: Byron Nelson After 36 Holes

MCKINNEY, TEXAS – World No. 2 and Dallas resident Scottie Schefflerholds a one-stroke lead after the second round of the AT&T Byron Nelson. Scheffler, who has two wins this season, can return to No. 1 in the Official World Golf Ranking with a victory.

For the second consecutive year at the AT&T Byron Nelson, Ryan Palmer tied his career-low opening 36-hole score (129)

Three of the top four players on the leaderboard have won this season (Scheffler, Mackenzie Hughes, Si Woo Kim).

Two-time defending champion K.H. Lee and 2018 champion Aaron Wise just made the cut on the number (-4). The 36-hole cut made for a weekend of 84 professionals at 4-under (138) from a field of 154 professionals and two amateurs.

PGA Tour: S.Y. Noh Leads After 18

MCKINNEY, TEXAS – S.Y. Noh tied the AT&T Byron Nelson 18-hole scoring record with a personal-best 11-under (60). Noh tied Patrick Cantlay (Shriners Children’s Open/R3) for low round of the 2023 season.

World No. 2 and Dallas resident Scottie Scheffler sits T4 following a 7-under (64).

Seeking to join Tom Watson as the only players to win the AT&T Byron Nelson three straight times, defending champion K.H. Lee opened with a 1-under (70), ten back going into Round 2.

Since 2000, there have only been three opening round leaders/co-leaders to go on to win the AT&T Byron Nelson, the last being Sergio Garcia in 2016.

Lee Goes Back-to-Back at Byron Nelson

MCKINNEY, TEXAS – Defending champion K.H. Lee became the AT&T Byron Nelson’s first repeat winner since 1980 (Tom Watson), closing with a final round and career low (63) to defeat hometown hero Jordan Spieth by one stroke.

Spieth heads to this week’s PGA Championship and his bid to complete the Career Grand Slam following a win and runner-up in last two starts.

Hideki Matsuyama posted his second-lowest round on Tour, one stroke shy of (61) at Firestone Country Club.

Xander Schauffele played his last 49 holes in 26-under to finish T-5 after making the 36-hole cut on the number (-5).

FedEx Cup leader and World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler finished T-15 at 19-under.

The field made 2,228 birdies this week, the most on record (since 1983) at any single-course event on Tour while 104 eagles were made, the second-most on record (since 1983) at an event on Tour. The record for most eagles was 114 at the 2019 Barbasol Championship.

PGA Tour: Weekend at Byron Nelson

AT&T Byron Nelson | After 36 Holes

MCKINNEY, TEXAS – First-round leader Sebastian Munoz follows opening-round (60) with a (69) and retains a share of the lead at (-15) as Amarillo, Texas native Ryan Palmer shot his lowest score (62) in 54 rounds at the AT&T Byron Nelson and 40-year-old PGA Tour rookie David Skinns posted his career-low score on Tour with a (63).

Defending champion K.H. Lee sits three strokes back in attempt to become event’s first repeat winner since 1980 while FedEx Cup leader and the World’s No. 1 ranked player, Scottie Scheffler, sits T-20 at 9-under, despite a triple bogey.

After 36 holes, players within four strokes of the lead represent nine different countries (USA, England, Colombia, South Africa, Chile, Korea, Japan, Ireland, Sweden).

The 5-under cut-line matched the lowest this season in relation to par (for the fourth time).

Jonas Blixt withdrew with illness during the second round.

AT&T Byron Nelson | Tournament Preview

MCKINNEY, TEXAS – The AT&T Byron Nelson is one of the premier events on the PGA Tour since 1968. The TPC Craig Ranch, just north of Dallas/Fort Worth, hosts the biggest golf attraction of the year and the most anticipated social event of the spring because of its yearly financial charity commitment to the community.

Three of the world’s Top 10 professional golfers and six of the Top 20 are scheduled to play with Brooks Koepka having to withdraw this week. Dallas resident Scottie Scheffler claimed his first Green Jacket at The Masters, then kept winning and winning to rocket to the top spot in the Official World Golf Rankings.

Fellow Texans Jordan Spieth, Will Zalatoris and Ryan Palmer are set to return to TPC Craig Ranch, as well.

K.H. Lee wins at Byron Nelson Classic

McKINNEY, TEXAS – In the final round, K.H. Lee birdied four of first six holes and 71st and 72nd holes to claim his first PGA Tour victory. Lee became the second consecutive Korean-born player to win the AT&T Byron Nelson joining Sung Kang in 2019. The 2020 event was cancelled due to the coronavirus global pandemic.

The tournament’s 54-hole leader, Sam Burns (2nd place/-22), closed with a 2-under (70) in his bid to become the first player since Camilo Villegas in 2008 to have his first two Tour victories come in back-to-back starts. Burns won the Valspar Championship in his last start two weeks ago.

With the runner-up finish at TPC Craig Ranch, Burns moved to No. 5 in the FedExCup points standings.

Patton Kizzire (T-3/-21) posted the low round of the day with a 9-under (63), resulting in his best finish on Tour since winning the 2018 Sony Open in Hawaii.

PGA Tour Brunch – AT&T Byron Nelson Classic Notes – R-4

Sam Burns holds his PGA Tour-leading fourth 54-hole lead/co-lead of the season. Burns looks to become the third player with multiple victories this season, joining Bryson DeChambeau and Stewart Cink.

K.H. Lee is seeking his first Tour win in his 80th career start. He shot a bogey-free 5-under (67) on Saturday and is only a stroke off the lead.

First-round co-leader Jordan Spieth sits T-3 with Matt Kuchar, Charl Schwartzel and Alex Noren.

Due to the expectation of inclement weather, today’s final round will feature threesomes off tee Nos. 1 and 10 and tee-times moved up to 7:00am-9:01am (local).

Weather: Showers and Thunderstorms expected throughout the day with temperatures in the 68-77-degree range. There’s a 30% chance of rain at 8am and an 80% chance of rain at Noon, diminishing to 20% and mostly cloudy by 6pm. Winds 8-14 mph with gusts up to 22 mph. Lightening in forecast, too, 10-70% throughout the day.

PGA Tour Brunch – Round 2 at the AT&T Byron Nelson Classic Notes

An ultra-hot Sam Burns carded a career-low (62), two weeks after equaling his best round on Tour with a second-round (63) en route to winning the Valspar Championship. Burns begins the third round at AT&T Byron Nelson Classic bogey-free through 36 holes, and holds his PGA Tour-leading fifth 36-hole lead/co-lead of the season.

The tournament’s 6-under cutline represents the lowest cut in AT&T Byron Nelson history (Previous was (-4) in 2018 and it fell one shy of the PGA Tour’s lowest cut since 1970.

First-round co-leaders J.J. Spaun and Jordan Spieth (63 in opening round) fell to fifth and T-6, respectively, after shooting (69) and (70) on Friday.

Masters Tournament champion Hideki Matsuyama and local Texas favorite Will Zalatoris made the cut right on the number (-6) while notables such as Rickie Fowler, Jason Day, Sergio Garcia, and Brooks Koepka all MTC.

Weather: Today’s forecast calls for partly sunny skies but a 20% chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms, expected no earlier than 4:00pm (local). Temperatures hovering in the low 60’s and winds 5-10 mph with gusts up to 22 mph.
