Game Changers in Pro Futbol Biz

January 29, 2026 by Digital Sports Desk

SEATTLE – (Staff Report from Official Company News Release) – Arkero, a new platform using Artificial Intelligence to effectively run the day-to-day operations of complex organizations in sport, recently announced a $6 million pre-seed funding round, and partnerships with professional sports organizations in the MLS, NWSL in the United States, along with users in the English Football League.

The investment was led by Roger Ehrenberg at Game Changers Ventures, with participation from Alexis Ohanian (776), David Tisch (BoxGroup), Garuda Ventures, Founders’ Co-op and strategic investors including Adrian Hanauer of the Seattle Sounders and Seattle Reign.

Arkero’s first partners include the Seattle Sounders, Seattle Reign, San Diego FC and Bolton Wanderers FC. Initial deployments focus on integrating AI into match day planning and season ticket renewals to help teams streamline coordination, reduce manual work, and operate with greater clarity across disconnected tools.

In early deployments, the Sounders and Reign project over 50% improvement in efficiency savings around matchday planning in 2026 alone, driven by reduced manual work, faster decision-making, and fewer operational errors.

Arkero centralizes operational data, workflows, and decisions into a single system, allowing business teams to plan, execute, and adapt in real time – without adding headcount or new layers of complexity. Because it is being built by operators who have run clubs themselves, Arkero reflects the realities of sports businesses: small teams, complex events, constant deadlines, and no margin for error. As a result, teams gain back time, clarity, and confidence – and can focus on growing the business rather than managing around broken processes.

“I own a football club. I’ve sat in the meetings, lived the chaos, and felt the cost of running a business on Excel and email,” said Shivaas Gulati, CEO of Arkero,“ The opportunity exists because this is broken from the inside.”

After leaving Remitly, the $8 billion IPO company he co-founded in 2022, Gulati joined the ownership group of English club Southend United FC, a 119-year-old club competing in the National League. Drawing on his hands-on experience from Southend United – and advising organizations such as the Seattle Sounders – Gulati has applied the operational discipline and best practices developed at Remitly to the global sports industry, a market exceeding $500 billion annually.

“On and off the pitch, our business is about constantly looking ahead to identify what we can do better and how we can use technology and the right partners to gain a competitive edge,” said Sounders FC majority owner Adrian Hanauer. “Our investment in Arkero is aligned with this approach, accounting for not just where we are as an organization today, but where we need to be going forward.”

“We made intentional decisions to prioritize how our teams could be optimized through AI,”said Hugh Weber, President and Chief Business Officer of Sounders FC. “Partnering with Shivaas and the Arkero team allowed us to embed AI into our operating system rather than layering on software which has made the technology a durable part of our culture.”

““We look for companies that have a clear grasp of where both sports and business are headed, near term and long term,” said Roger Ehrenberg of Game Changers Ventures. “While many are still debating how AI fits into real business solutions, Arkero is delivering tangible results. They’ve already demonstrated real impact with partners like the Sounders and the Reign, and we’re proud to support them as they scale.”

$4,000 “Get In” Price for CFP

January 19, 2026 by Digital Sports Desk

MIAMI GARDENS – (Staff and Wire Service Report) – Monday night’s title game between Miami and Indiana will be the most expensive ticket in the history of the College Football Playoff.

Embed from Getty Images

The get-in price for two seats together at the 65,000-seat Hard Rock Stadium as of 5 p.m. ET on Monday was more than $4,000 across several secondary ticketing platforms.

  • SeatGeek: $4,109
  • Ticketmaster: $4,080
  • Vivid Seats: $4,028
  • StubHub: $4,217

Premium services were even more, topping out at $16,000+ for a single seat.

The get-in price at SeatGeek had risen approximately $900 from just a few hours earlier on Monday afternoon, according to tracking on the platform by Field Level Media.

That is on pace to smash the previous high on record of $1,830 on TickPick for last year’s title game between Notre Dame and Ohio State, according to Front Office Sports.

Contributing factors to the record price include Miami playing in its home stadium, which is also the home of the NFL’s Miami Dolphins, and that Indiana boasts the largest living alumni base in the United States at more than 800,000.

The No. 1 Hoosiers are seeking their first national title in program history while the Hurricanes are seeking their first since the 2001 season. Indiana is a consensus 7.5-point favorite.

Al Michaels to Return for NFL ’26

January 8, 2026 by Terry Lyons

LOS ANGELES – (Wire Service Report) – Broadcast legend Al Michaels will call NFL games for Amazon Prime Video again in 2026.

Amazon confirmed the news to The Athletic, which reported the news among multiple media outlets.

Michaels, 81, has been the voice of “Thursday Night Football” since Amazon took over the franchise in 2022. His contract was set to expire after this season.

He will join broadcast partner Kirk Herbstreit on the call of the wild-card game between the Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field on Saturday night.

“I love what I do. I work with great people. … The Amazon thing has worked out extremely well,” he said recently on the “Mad Dog Unleashed” show on SiriusXM.

Perhaps best remembered for his “Do you believe in miracles?” call when the United States shocked the Soviet Union during the men’s ice hockey competition at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, Michaels’ voice has been heard across a variety of sports.

In 2021, he was honored by the National Baseball Hall of Fame with the Ford C. Frick Award for broadcasting excellence. He also earned the Pete Rozelle Radio & Television Award from the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He has won multiple Emmy Awards and National Sportscaster of the Year honors and has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

He began his career on network television in 1971.

TL’s Sunday Notes | December 14

December 14, 2025 by Digital Sports Desk

YouTube player

By TERRY LYONS, Editor of Digital Sports Desk

PROVIDENCE – The date was October 12, 1989 and the assignment was to be a one-man, one day advance team for the NBA as the Orlando Magic were to play their first game ever the following day. NBA Commissioner David Stern was in route to attend the game and, as always, Stern was willing and very able to do as many interviews as possible, TV one-on-ones, small group gatherings with the local assembled print media in the pressroom – you name it, he’d do it.

David was “an ace in the hole” for his “crack” PR staff and I was ready to run him through the gauntlet at Orlando’s brand-spanking new O-Rena. It was great.

With a bit of local intel from the Magic’s terrific PR staff (Alex Martins), a schedule was drawn up to catch as many of the local TV broadcasts as time would allow. The stations worked together – a bit – to slide live drop-ins and share in the wealth.

I don’t think Stuart Scott knew all of that as he was working at WRAL-TV in Raleigh at the time. But, he was soon to be on our radar.

Stern did his duty and the Orlando Magic won the game. A terrific start for the NBA expansion team – one of four that came into the league – alphabetically – in 1988 and 1989. Charlotte and Miami in 1988 and Minnesota and Orlando in 1989. We made the rounds for all four cities, a two-man NBA traveling band over many of the years as the NBA began to stretch its legs in terms of media coverage and worldwide popularity.

Just a few years later, it was Earvin “Magic” Johnson on center stage as the 1992 NBA All-Star Weekend was scheduled to be played in Orlando and for the second year, I was named to run point for our growing PR department by NBA PR guru Brian McIntyre, the guy with Bunn Award Hall of Fame skills. In an attempt to set a huge stage for Magic and the Magic organization, we all combined with the NBA events and attractions group to stage an incredible weekend.

Embed from Getty Images

There were countless planning trips down to Orlando – all with flights packed with kids, sometimes tots, all anxious and excited to visit Disney World. For those flights, the Bose (noise-cancelling) headphones and plenty of Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd were packed to counter the crying and carrying on for little ones with altitude adjustment issues and painful ears. I felt for them, but there’s no child who can out-scream “Kashmir” or “When the Levee Breaks.”

The more trips, the more I noticed a WESH-TV 2’s sports reporter. Yes, Stuart Scott had moved to Orlando for a better gig on the WESH-TV news team, and he was good. He stood out amongst the relatively small media mass of Orlando, one where a guy named Christopher Russo had yet to go canine.

Leading up to the All-Star Weekend, I asked Stuart if he needed anything “special,” and more or less opened the door for any request. Earvin could only do the main podium interviews, and he was his usual amazing self, but I had the keys to Commissioner Stern’s busy schedule, and, aside from the obvious NBC Sports requests, in my eyes after observing Stuart over months of reports, the young reporter out of North Carolina had earned a little extra – call it, ‘treat him like family,’ love and an audience with Stern. That was a considerable “get” for a local broadcaster.

There’s no great punchline to this intro. Stuart Scott had earned the respect of all of the Magic players and their opponents, and his talent was noticeable to anyone who watched him work. He had yet to coin the phrase, “Cool as the other side of the pillow,” but that’s what he was – every single night. He was just a pleasure to work with and he generally appreciated the give-and-take. And, that’s the way we rolled for quite a long time. We worked at many an NBA game, and even in London where the Magic played the Atlanta Hawks at the very first NBA London Games (1993). Stuart and Shaquille O’Neal – the NBA Rookie of the Year in ‘92-93 – had developed quite a nice relationship. Shaq seemed to enjoy his time with Stuart, rather than think of it as work.

Stuart eventually became, “Stu,” to most of us, and he advanced his career by accepting a job with ESPN where he was among the opening night newscasters on ESPN2, the mothership’s attempt to be “cool.” It quickly became obvious, with Keith Olbermann on-set and on-air in a goofy leather jacket, and at that point in time, “Stu” was the only thing “cool” about ESPN2.

Scott was eventually promoted to the “A” team at ESPN and there he was hosting the main newscast at the NBA Finals. He had developed a rapport with so many of the rank and file NBA players, it was never difficult to coordinate an interview as the players liked him and enjoyed his rock solid style of conducting business. It was a joy to be a small part of as Stuart truly commanded the NBA airwaves. It seemed like Stuart Scott was growing up with the NBA, with pro basketball in Central Florida and, then, with a national following of sports fans.

To take a rather corny line from Forrest Gump, Stu and the NBA were like peas and carrots. Then – just like Forrest’s Jenny – the roof caved in and we heard the news of Stu’s battle vs. cancer.

It was a body-check in the gut, and it knocked the air right out of our bodies, minds and spirits. It wasn’t fair.

It never is.

Time moved along, just as it did for our other NBA Family insider – TNT’s Craig Sager – and both Stu and Sager courageously battled cancer and are now etched in our psyche with their mind-blowing, tremendous, courageous speeches at the ESPYs.

That brings us to the “Boo-yah,” A Portrait of Stuart Scott – a must watch documentary available on the ESPN app. In addition to extensive interviews with Stuart’s surviving family and his pillars – his daughters – there is quite a bit of entertaining original footage coming in the “never seen before” fashion.

Film producer Andre Gaines told The Hollywood Reporter he had “easily” 400 to 500 hours of footage to use for his ESPN 30 for 30 installment, much of which Scott shot himself … of himself.

That includes what became Gaines’ poetic documentary ending scene, first dug out of the archives by the documentary’s producer Ryan Lohuis. I will not spoil its impact.

Boston Bruins’ Winter Classic team sweater (Courtesy Boston Bruins)

HERE NOW, THE NOTES: Who needs another retro/alternate team uniform? Raise your hands. Anyone?

“Through multiple Winter Classics and of course our club’s 100th anniversary, we’ve done a lot of retro and vintage style jerseys, but Stadium Series presented an opportunity to do something really unique,” said Boston Bruins President Cam Neely. “We’re introducing a new team uniform that combines Bruins toughness and snarl with some really dialed up components and coloring. These sweaters are going to look great under the Sunday night lights.”

The Bruins’ Winter Classic jerseys feature a variety of new brand marks and design elements:

Sunshine Motif: In addition to the primary gold color, the jersey features debossed sun rays on the sleeves and on the hem loop label, which also features “BOS” – Boston’s airport code – a nod to the road warriors. (Who knew #1)?

Football-Inspired: The main “Boston” wordmark on the front of the jersey is akin to the New England Patriots styling, an intentional nod to the game being hosted in an NFL football stadium, and features a lock-up treatment with the Bruins’ crawling bear logo. The crawling bear – traditionally a secondary brand asset – is bigger and more prominent for the Stadium Series. (Who knew #2)?

Bear Claw Slash: One side shoulder features a new secondary mark, an iconic varsity B with a bear claw slash to signifying the grit and toughness that have been synonymous with Bruins hockey for more than 100 years. The slash graphic element appears throughout the uniform, including on the jersey, helmet, and pants. (Who knew #3)?

Love For New England: The inside neck collar features the abbreviations of the six New England states as a reminder that the Bruins are proud to represent their region no matter where they play. (Who Knew #4)?

That’s four “Who Knews,” a new Winter Classic record.

TIDBITS & NUGGETS: The FIFA World Cup draw took place a couple of weeks ago and, as the ping-pong balls fell, it brought New England one of the highly anticipated matches with Norway vs. France. Norway’s team is an up and coming world competitor with striker Erling Haaland leading the Norwegian football team. Haaland is considered one of the top players in the world. He plays for Manchester City in the English Premier League and is celebrated for his exceptional goal-scoring ability to allow Norway to make their first major tournament appearance since 2000.

They’ll face France, considered to be one of the favorites to lift the coveted World Cup trophy, especially after their strong performance in the preceding tournaments. They exhibit a powerful blend of experienced players and exciting young talent, making them a formidable contender.

France won in 2018 and finished as a 2022 finalist. Les Bleus will be a serious contender yet again with its treasure trove of talent. Superstar forward Kylian Mbappe is entering his prime and Ousmane Dembele just won the Ballon d’Or. Other star options in attack are Desire Doue, Michael Olise, Bradley Barcola and Rayan Cherki.

Now, the bad news: An early inquiry into purchasing tickets for the big FRA vs NOR game resulted in some astronomical prices. A single ticket was listed at $2,158 (by tournament sponsor VISA) in a promotion which included a few bells and whistles (VIP stuff). A pair for the FRA vs NOR game? $6,700 bucks, and I’m not sure that includes parking fees at “Boston Stadium,” as they scrubbed Gillette right off the marquee.

Somehow, the tickets will sell. But, who can afford them?

THIS JEST IN: You might celebrate Christmas. Then there’s Festivus – the George Costanza/Seinfeld publicized “Festivus for the Rest of Us.” And, now for the Rock ‘n Rollers. there’s “Goosemas.”

Goose the Band (Google it, if you haven’t heard of them) plays back-to-back concerts on an annual basis and has tagged them as “Goosemas.” It’s a bit of a goof for a band that prides itself on not taking themselves too seriously but over the past for or five years has established themselves at the No. 1 Jam Band on the circuit.

While Jam Band sort of catches all aspects of the music, Goose is very hard to categorize. They were originally tagged as Indie Rock and they self-describe the band as “Indie Groove,” they’ve evolved into pure musical and theatrical mastery. The band hails from Wilton, Connecticut, and they formed in 2014. Theyve had some line-up changes over the years but solidified under the three original members in guitarist and vocalist superb, Rick Mitarotonda, while keyboardist and vocalist Peter Anspach keeps up the rapport with the growing fan base (sometimes referred to as “Creatures.” Bass player Trevor Weekz (often spelled Weeks and he went with a WEEKS New York Rangers jersey when at The Garden) holds down the sound nearly as well as The Who’s late bass man John Entwistle who is sometimes considered the all-time best. Like Entwisle, Weekz plants himself on stage and barely moves any part of his lower body while working magic with his hands and bass guitar, usually a Elrick Gold Series bolt-on 5-string or his Modulus Quantum 5-string; Godin A5 fretless 5-string; ’70s Fender Jazz Bass; or maybe an Elrick Master Series 35”- scale, single cutaway 5-string; or the patented and go-to Fender Tony Franklin Fretless Precision Bass after graduating from his first bass guitar – a used, Japanese-made Fender Jazz Bass with EMG pickups. Drummer Cotter Ellis plays a non-stop back beat making everyone wonder how he doesn’t simply tire out. Mitarotonda and Anspach handle most of the song-writing.

Goosemas 2025 at Providence (Photo by T. Peter Lyons)

While Goose has now played sellout shows at Radio City Music Hall, Red Rocks in Colorado and Madison Square Garden in New York amongst all the other great venues, this veteran Goose fan (tipped off years ago by my Phish-loving neighbor) sees a band constantly evolving, constantly creating, constantly improving and finding a new niche that attracts fans of all genres and all ages.

Mitarotonda’s guitar playing has mesmerized all of his fans, while his voice remains so rock solid. It’s hard not to go too far with comparisons, so I won’t, but Mitarotonda has the whole package of guitar chops, the solid voice and exquisite song writing skills. He stands center stage and commands his audience in a smooth, natural way – simply being his cool self – nothing more, nothing less. Mitarotonda is the superstar of this band and he was born to be a musical legend.

Goosemas 2025 (night one) was incredible, almost indescribable, but I’ll try. Tagged as “Barnaby Glimpse’s Show Upon Time: A Phantom Menagerie” which was fictionally staged in the year 1734, the theatrics conjured up the craziest nights of New Orleans’ Mardi Gras mixed with a real menagerie of dancing creatures, hundreds of balloons and inflatable objects, all bouncing around a Providence venue (Amica Mutual Pavillion … the AMP) that must have a new high for an electric/power bill today. All the theatrics were backed by incredible guitar, bass and drum-driven “grooves” that made the buildings’ floor look like it was a giant waterbed moving up and down with two or three thousand fans packed together for one giant dance-off in one giant dance hall. Goose was fabulous.

During the early stages of Friday night’s show, Goose debuted Pink Floyd’s “Pigs (Three Different Ones)” as a first-time cover, featuring Ellis on lead vocals and adding Stuart Bogie on woodwinds during their first set. Bogie’s sax playing was a wonderful addition to the band.

The show closed as Ellis subtly exited the stage, soon to be followed by Weekz which allowed Mitarotonda and Anspach a finely lit stage to deliver their debut cover version of Neil Young’s “Sugar Mountain.”

Anspach exited, leaving only a lone vocalist and guitarist in Mitarotonda who upon hitting the last note, slowly walked over to the Ghostlight on stage and turned it off.

What a finish.

Stunning.

EDITOR’S NOTE: At approximately 4:13pm on Saturday, there was a mass shooting on the campus of Brown University in Providence, where this column originated from on Friday. Police and authorities are reporting two fatalities and multiple people (at least eight) injured and in critical condition.

In hindsight, and looking back about 24 hours, the joy of life during a peaceful weekend and attending an entertaining rock show turns to helpless feelings of sympathy for the families of the victims, some possibly not even notified as of this writing from nearby Boston on Saturday evening.

Brown is such a wonderful school and the City of Providence a gem amongst East Coast small towns. May God Bless the victims of this senseless crime with hope police, FBI and first responders quickly apprehend the perpetrator of this crime.

Spain Favored in World Cup

December 5, 2025 by Digital Sports Desk

WASH DC – (Staff and Wire Service Report) – Spain remained the favorite to win the 2026 World Cup following Friday’s draw, while the United States men’s national team saw its odds shorten after being placed in what’s widely viewed as a favorable bracket. The top-ranked team in the FIFA Men’s World Ranking, Spain was the +400 pre-draw favorite at BetMGM. Those odds remained unchanged after being placed in Group H with Uruguay, Saudi Arabia and Cabo Verde.

Embed from Getty Images

England holds the second shortest odds at +600, followed by France at +700 and defending champion Argentina at +800 along with Brazil. The odds are similar at DraftKings, where Spain is the +450 favorite ahead of England (+550) and France (+750) with Argentina and Brazil at +800. Spain is BetMGM’s second-biggest liability, leading all countries with 13.0% of all tickets and 17.0% of the money placed on the 2026 World Cup winner.

The biggest liability? That would be the emotional support thrown behind the USMNT.

A +6600 longshot before the draw, the USMNT had still been backed by 6.2% of all money wagered. Those odds shortened to +5000 after the USMNT was placed in Group D along with Australia, Paraguay and a yet-to-be determined European playoff team (Turkey, Romania, Slovakia or Kosovo). The U.S. will play Paraguay on June 12 (Inglewood, Calif.), Australia on June 19 (Seattle) and the third group member on June 25 (Inglewood, Calif.). It is a +125 favorite to beat Paraguay and the +100 favorite to win Group D.

The USMNT and rival Mexico also share the co-14th shortest odds in the 48-team field at +5000 each to win the title. Mexico will play the first match of the tournament on June 11 against South Africa at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City.

Mexico and South Africa are in Group A with South Korea and a yet-to-be determined European playoff team (Denmark, North Macedonia, Czechia or Ireland). Mexico opened as a -200 favorite to beat South Africa and as the +130 favorite to win the group.

Joining Canada in Group B are Switzerland, Qatar and a yet-to-be determined European playoff team (Italy, Northern Ireland, Wales or Bosnia-Herzegovina). Canada is the only one of the three co-host countries not to be favored to win its group, with the to-be-determined team — presumed to be 12th-ranked Italy — offered at +125 ahead of Switzerland (+175) and Canada (+250).

The USMNT remained +8000 at DraftKings, where it has the same odds as rival Mexico, Ecuador, Morocco and Switzerland. Canada is a +25000 longshot at the book.

2026 FIFA WORLD CUP GROUPS
Group A: Korea, Mexico, South Africa, TBD (Denmark, North Macedonia, Czechia or Ireland)
Group B: Canada, Qatar, Switzerland, TBD (Italy, Northern Ireland, Wales or Bosnia-Herzegovina)
Group C: Brazil, Morocco, Scotland, Haiti
Group D: Australia, Paraguay, USA, TBD ((Turkey, Romania, Slovakia or Kosovo)
Group E: Germany, Ecuador, Ivory Coast, Curacao
Group F: Netherlands, Japan, Tunisia, TBD (Ukraine, Sweden, Poland or Albania)
Group G: Belgium, Iran, Egypt, New Zealand
Group H: Spain, Uruguay, Saudi Arabia, Cabo Verde
Group I: France, Senegal, Norway, TBD (Bolivia, Suriname or Iraq)
Group J: Argentina, Austria, Algeria, Jordan
Group K: Portugal, Colombia, Uzbekistan, TBD (New Caledonia, Jamaica or Congo DR)
Group L: England, Croatia, Panama, Ghana
Forty-two nations have qualified.

The other six participants are still to be determined through UEFA and inter-confederation playoffs being held in March.

The top two finishers from each group, along with the eight best third-place teams, will advance to the final 32 for the knockout stage.

The championship match will take place on July 19 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.

Matches are taking place in 16 cities across North America, including two in Canada (Toronto, Vancouver) and three in Mexico (Mexico City, Monterrey and Guadalajara).

Locations across the U.S. are Atlanta, Boston (Foxborough, Mass.), Dallas (Arlington, Texas), Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles (Inglewood, Calif.), Miami (Miami Gardens, Fla.), New York/New Jersey (East Rutherford, N.J.), Philadelphia, San Francisco (Santa Clara, Calif.) and Seattle.

“Hosting a Fleet game at TD Garden is an exciting milestone for our organization,” Fleet business operations director Laura Marie Davey said. “Playing at such an iconic venue presents an incredible opportunity to showcase the PWHL on one of the biggest stages in sports and to connect with fans from across Greater Boston.”

TD Garden has a capacity for nearly 18,000 spectators for ice hockey, nearly three times more than the Fleet’s home at the Tsongas Center in Lowell.

“We’re honored to welcome the PWHL’s Boston Fleet to TD Garden for their first game this April,” said Glen Thornborough, president of TD Garden and COO of the Boston Bruins.

“TD Garden is built to give world-class athletes and fans a world-class stage, and we’re proud to bring the PWHL onto a platform that delivers the full NHL-level experience they deserve. The growth of women’s sports is inspiring, and adding more premier women’s events to our calendar is something we’re energized to champion.”

The program, the first-ever lottery series connected to the Globetrotters, will officially begin in December with a scratch-off ticket released by the Maryland Lottery.

The Globetrotters Centennial season will officially tip-off with a special event at Madison Square Garden on December 14. The barnstorming team will begin touring again thereafter.

“The growth of casual gaming continues to be a key engagement point for consumers and we are proud to be able to use this partnership with EQL Games to have our brand story in front of millions of consumers who might not be our traditional fanbase,” said Keith Dawkins, President, Harlem Globetrotters & Herschend Entertainment Studios. “This is yet another great example of the fun and unique ways the organization will grow our areas of consumer engagement as our Centennial season tips off.”

“The 2026 season marks 100 years of the Globetrotters being synonymous with fun and entertainment, two of the biggest reasons people play the lottery,” said Brad Cummings, CEO of EQL Games. “We are honored to tip-off this partnership with the Maryland Lottery, and we are looking forward to expanding it to other lotteries in the coming months. Released on the eve of the team’s 100th year celebration in 2026, the new $2 Maryland tickets feature vintage Harlem Globetrotters designs, including the iconic basketball spinning on a finger. The offering provides a chance to win prizes, both instantly and through a second-chance promotion. Similar programs are in discussion with other States and will be announced in the coming months.

The full 100th Anniversary Tour will continue in Boston and Pittsburgh on Friday, December 26th and then roll out across 200+ domestic markets and over 125 markets internationally. Fans can also expect all-new surprises like the Golden Basketball by Spalding, epic pre-game Magic Pass experiences, 100 Year limited edition merchandise and many other new innovations for the “Ambassadors of Basketball.”

International markets such as France, United Kingdom, Italy, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, Belgium, Netherlands, Mexico, and across Asia are just a few of the many locations the Harlem Globetrotters will be touring in winter of 2026 and running through the remainder of the year.

Arrests Come Down on MLB Pitchers

November 9, 2025 by Digital Sports Desk

BROOKLYN – (Wire Service Report) – Cleveland Guardians pitchers Emmanuel Clase and Luis Ortiz have been indicted after being accused of rigging bets in Major League Baseball games. The indictment was handed down earlier this week in U.S. District Court of the Eastern Division of New York and made public on Sunday by the Department of Justice.

Embed from Getty Images

In the case of Clase — a three-time All-Star and two-time Marino Rivera American League Reliever of the Year — investigators tied him to pitches he allegedly rigged for bettors, tipping them off about what he would throw and when. According to the indictment, he sometimes communicated his upcoming pitches via cellphone during games.

Both players face four charges: wire fraud conspiracy, honest services wire fraud conspiracy, conspiracy to influence sporting contests by bribery, and money laundering conspiracy. If found guilty of all charges, they could spend a maximum of 65 years in prison.

Ortiz was arrested Sunday in Boston and scheduled to appear in federal court on Monday. Clase is not in custody in the United States.

In a statement to ESPN, Major League Baseball said: “MLB contacted federal law enforcement at the outset of its investigation and has fully cooperated throughout the process. We are aware of the indictment and today’s arrest, and our investigation is ongoing.”

Law enforcement began its investigation in the spring.

“Beginning in or around May 2023, Clase, a relief pitcher for the Cleveland Guardians, agreed with corrupt sports bettors to rig proposition bets — or ‘prop’ bets — on particular pitches he threw,” per a news release from the Justice Department.

“The bettors wagered on the speed and type of Clase’s pitches, based on information they knew in advance by coordinating with Clase, sometimes even during MLB games. Clase often threw these rigged pitches on the first pitch of an at-bat. To ensure certain pitches were called as balls, Clase threw many of them in the dirt, well outside the strike zone. The bettors used the advanced, inside information that Clase provided about his future pitches to wager thousands of dollars at online sportsbooks.

“Clase at times received bribes and kickbacks from the bettors in exchange for providing advanced, non-public information. He also sometimes provided money to the bettors in advance to fund the scheme. The indictment includes numerous examples of pitches that Clase rigged, including one in the Eastern District of New York in a game against the New York Mets. In total, by rigging pitches, Clase caused his co-conspirator bettors to win at least $400,000 in fraudulent wagers.”

Ortiz is alleged to have joined the scheme in June 2025 and received bribes and kickbacks for throwing balls instead of strikes. Clase was the connection between Ortiz and the bettors, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Ortiz allegedly was paid $5,000 to throw a ball on purpose in Cleveland’s June 15 game against the Seattle Mariners, with Clase getting the same amount for setting it up. For a June 27 game against the St. Louis Cardinals, they each received $7,000 for a similar act, according to the indictment.

That was the final game Ortiz pitched in 2025.

Ortiz and Clase were placed on leave July 3 and July 28, respectively. On Aug. 31, Major League Baseball and its players association extended the non-disciplinary paid leave of the right-handers “until further notice” amid an ongoing sports betting investigation.

Clase, 27, was 5-3 with a 3.23 ERA and 24 saves in 48 appearances in the 2025 season. He had a career-high 47 saves in 2024.

Clase is 21-26 with 182 saves and a 1.88 ERA in 366 career games (one start) with the Texas Rangers (2019) and the Guardians.

Ortiz, 26, was 4-9 with a 4.36 ERA in 16 starts this season. He was acquired from the Pittsburgh Pirates as part of a three-team trade that included the Toronto Blue Jays last Dec. 10.

NFL’s Tagliabue, Dead at 84

November 9, 2025 by Terry Lyons

CHEVY CHASE – (Wire Service Report) – Paul Tagliabue, who served as the NFL’s commissioner for 17 seasons, died Sunday morning at the age of 84. Per Tagliabue’s family, the apparent cause of death was heart failure complicated by Parkinson’s disease. He passed away at his home in Maryland.

Tagliabue replaced Pete Rozelle as the NFL’s commissioner in 1989. He was succeeded by current commissioner Roger Goodell in 2006.

Under Tagliabue’s watch, the league signed what was then the largest television contract for the NFL, enjoyed 17 seasons of labor peace, and expanded to 32 teams after adding the Carolina Panthers (1995), Jacksonville Jaguars (1995), the reborn Cleveland Browns (1999) and Houston Texans (2002).

Tagliabue, who also ushered in an era of state-of-the-art stadiums, was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame as a contributor in 2020.

“All of us in the NFL are deeply saddened by the passing of Paul Tagliabue, whose principled leadership and vision put the NFL on the path to unparalleled success,” Goodell said.

“Throughout his decades-long leadership on behalf of the NFL, first as outside counsel and then during a powerful 17-year tenure as commissioner, Paul served with integrity, passion and an unwavering conviction to do what was best for the league.

“Paul was the ultimate steward of the game — tall in stature, humble in presence and decisive in his loyalty to the NFL. He viewed every challenge and opportunity through the lens of what was best for the greater good, a principle he inherited from Pete Rozelle and passed on to me.”

The terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, and Hurricanes Katrina in 2005 also came to pass during Tagliabue’s time as commissioner. He canceled the weekend’s NFL games in the aftermath of Sept. 11, and ensured the Saints would return to New Orleans after being dispatched to San Antonio during the 2005 season.

A native of New Jersey who captained the basketball team at Georgetown in college, Tagliabue is survived by his wife, Chandler, son Drew and daughter Emily.

So, It’s Not Just The NBA?

November 8, 2025 by Digital Sports Desk

LAS VEGAS – With the UFC potentially facing its second betting scandal in the past three years, CEO Dana White told tabloid TV TMZ that his UFC staff is in close contact with the FBI after heavily favored featherweight Isaac Dulgarian lost on Saturday at UFC Vegas 110.

Confirming reports from Uncrowned and Yahoo Sports, White said IC360, UFC’s betting integrity partner, alerted the UFC hours before Dulgarian’s featherweight fight against Yadier del Valle that the underdog was drawing plenty of betting action to win along with first-round prop bets.
