Celtics Roll Over Sixers in Game 2

May 4, 2023 by Digital Sports Desk

BOSTON – (Staff and Wire Service Report) – Philadelphia’s oft-injured center Joel Embiid returned to the 76ers’ lineup for Game 2 of the Eastern Conference semifinals Wednesday night, but the Sixers fell victims to a 34-point blowout looking like a completely different club than the one who upset Boston in Game 1 Monday night.

In Game 2, host Boston benefitted from a game-high 25 points from all-star swingman Jaylen Brown and pulled even in the best-of-seven series, earning a 121-87 victory.

The second-seeded Celtics led by only eight at halftime and took control of the game in the third quarter, when they outscored the third-seeded Sixers, 35-16, to take a 92-65 advantage into the fourth.

Malcolm Brogdon came off the bench to toss in 23 points for the Celtics, who won even though leading scorer Jayson Tatum finished the game with seven points in 19 minutes. Marcus Smart (15 points), Derrick White (15) and Grant Williams (12) also scored in double figures for Boston, which made 20 of its 51 (39.2 percent) 3-point attempts.

Embiid, who was named the NBA’s MVP on Tuesday, sprained his lateral collateral ligament on April 20 during Game 3 of Philadelphia’s first-round series against the Brooklyn Nets. He didn’t play in Game 4, when the 76ers completed a four-game sweep of the Nets. He also sat out Philadelphia’s 119-115 Game 1 victory over Boston on Monday.

Embiid finished Game 2 with 15 points and five blocks in 27 minutes. He won a second straight scoring title by averaging 33.1 points per game during the regular season.

Tobias Harris led Philadelphia with 16 points. James Harden, who scored 45 points in Game 1, scored 12 in Game 2. The 76ers were 6 of 30 (20 percent) from behind the 3-point arc.

The Celtics led 28-22 after one quarter and increased their lead to 12 points — their largest lead of the first half — when an Al Horford 3-pointer made it 50-38 with 4:41 left in the second quarter. The 76ers missed 12 of their 13 3-point attempts in the first half and trailed 57-49 entering the third quarter.

Boston cruised from there, leading by as much as 36. The series continues with Game 3 in Philadelphia on Friday.

Red Sox Strike Data Protection Deal

May 4, 2023 by Digital Sports Desk

BOSTON – (Staff Report from Official News Release) – HYCU, Inc., a Boston-based data protection service company, struck a multi-year partnership with the Boston Red Sox. The new partnership will leverage the power of the award-winning HYCU Protégé platform to modernize, scale, and simplify the Red Sox club-owned proprietary data and its overall protection strategy.

Echoing Major League Baseball’s efforts to protect the integrity of data, the challenge for the Red Sox became apparent as each MLB club needed to protect their back-end infrastructure environments such as corporate, enterprise, and fan-facing systems that are unique to the sport.

The Red Sox turned to HYCU to modernize their back-end infrastructure. In doing so, the team adopted the solutions tailored to fit their specific needs.

“The business of baseball is very complex,” said Brian Shield, Red Sox SVP and CTO. “The need to modernize our digital strategy and cloud capabilities was a top priority for our IT team. As our data protection needs continue to grow, we needed a more effective way to protect our data and HYCU has allowed us to do that.”

“Partnering with the Boston Red Sox and their IT department to help modernize their infrastructure for not only today but well into the future, is what any Boston-based company dreams about,” said Simon Taylor, CEO and Founder, HYCU. “HYCU solutions are designed to help companies seamlessly manage, protect, optimize, and recover all their data, no matter where it resides and on what platform. We are thrilled to work with The Red Sox and count them as a key relationship in our growing customer base.”

Tour Turns to “The Green Mile”

May 4, 2023 by PGA Tour Brunch

CHARLOTTE – The Wells Fargo Championship is the 29th event of the 2022-23 PGA TOUR Season and seventh designated event, featuring six of the Top 10 players in the Official World Golf Ranking (33 of top 50), 25 of the top 30 players in the FedEx Cup standings and 19 of the 23 players that have won on TOUR this season.

Prize money is a lofty $20m with the winner getting $3.6 million from the bank’s coffers.

Two-time Wells Fargo Championship winner Max Homa (2019 at Quail Hollow Club, 2022 at TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm) is one of four players with multiple titles this season (Fortinet Championship, Farmers Insurance Open) and is seeking to successfully defend a title for the second time this season (Fortinet Championship).

No player has ever successfully defended a title at the Wells Fargo Championship.

Five players successfully defended a title during the 2021-22 season, the most since 2007 (5), and Homa is one of three that have done so this season (Rory McIlroy/The CJ CUP in South Carolina, Scottie Scheffler/WM Phoenix Open).

Three-time Wells Fargo Championship winner Rory McIlroy, the highest-ranked player in the field at No. 3 in the Official World Golf Ranking, will be making his 12th start at the event. The Wells Fargo Championship is one of six TOUR events at which McIlroy has collected multiple victories and the first that he won three or more times.

Quail Hollow Club’s 16th, 17th and 18th holes make up the most difficult three-hole finish on Tour, known as the Green Mile. Among non-major courses that have been played in at least five seasons since 2003, “The Green Mile” ranks as the toughest finishing three holes (+0.904 on average).

Max Homa is one of 18 players in the field that competed in the 2022 Presidents Cup at Quail Hollow Club. Those items included:

  • International Team: Corey Conners (Canada), Cam Davis (Australia), Sungjae Im (South Korea), Si Woo Kim (South Korea), Tom Kim (South Korea), K.H. Lee (South Korea), Taylor Pendrith (Canada), Adam Scott (Australia)
  • United States: Sam Burns, Patrick Cantlay, Tony Finau, Max Homa, Collin Morikawa, Xander Schauffele, Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, Cameron Young
